Fighting against injustice and abusive systems of government is not a recent issue. Since the beginning of the society the men try to change what they think be wrong or not fair. It is easy to verify that whether we remember the large number of wars there were in the past or how many countries won independence because of the willingness of the people. However, it is a fact that the population always needed a person to lead the revolution and also inspire and convince people to fight for their ideals. In the human history there were a considerable number of remarkable men who dedicated their lives for a larger cause. Two revolutionaries so different and at the same time too similar in their desire to change the world have made history for the humanity: Ernesto Che Guevara and Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.
Ernesto Che Guevara and Mohandas Gandhi were great leaders in the twentieth century. The first one is known for his actions in Latin America while the second is famous for what he did at India. However, the legacy these two men left overcomes borders, it belongs to the world. Until nowadays, people from the whole world remember these two personalities and recognize how important they were for human history. Nevertheless, what people don’t know is that these two men have more things in common that anyone could imagine. One similarity is that up to a certain point, both Gandhi and Che Guevara have developed their beliefs based on their personal experiences, trips and studies. Gandhi enjoyed travel to different countries and it was during one travel to South Africa that he suffered painful racist experiences and “discovered that he wanted to fight injustice” (Akinyemi, 2010). Che Guevara, similarly, traveled through Latin America in a motorcycle of a friend and he was terrible bothered by seeing how wealth people and American companies explored poor workers (Guevara, et al., 2003). Both Gandhi and Guevara continued to travel during their lives and each experience they gone through have made them build their ideals and increase their desire of battling (Akinyemi,2010) (Barry,2007). Another similarity is about what they fought for. Both Gandhi and Che Guevara have dedicated their lives to fight against the injustice and the oppressive government. Gandhi aimed the independence of India from British power (Akinyemi,2010); likewise, Che Guevara wanted the end of the dictatorship in Cuba (Barry, 2007). Gandhi though that each person in India should be trait equal, independent on religion or social class (Akinyemi,2010). In the same way, Che Guevara believed that poor people should have the same rights as wealth people (Guevara, et al., 2003). Finally, Gandhi and Che Guevara are similar in their persistence in achieving their goals, albeit the different methods they used. It is important to emphasize that both Gandhi and Che Guevara fought their entire lives for their ideals. Even with all difficulties, neither Gandhi nor Che Guevara has gave up to fight for his causes. Gandhi was arrested many times (Akinyemi,2010) like Che Guevara that was sent to prison too (Barry, 2007). More than that, they both were murdered because of their ideals.
There exist some similarities, but there are more differences between Ernesto Guevara and Mohandas Gandhi. First of all, they were born in different places, cultures, customs, studies, and different ways of though. For that reason, the strategies that they used to achieve their goals were completely different. Ernesto Guevara was born in Argentina on June 14 1928. He studied Medicine. Furthermore, he was an intellectual and idealist inspired by Aristotle, Kant, Marx and Guide. Moreover Ernesto was very popular in Cuba because he was a brave and innate leadership that fought against the Yankee Imperialism (Sierra 2009). Because of the fact that Guevara had great sensitivity to injustice, he played an important role in converting Cuba to communism, often quoting Marx, Engels, Mao Tse Tung and others (Satre, 1975). On the other hand, Gandhi was born on 2 October 1869 in Porbandar, a province of Gujarat. He studied Law in London. In those days, different groups in India lived separately, were not allowed to do many things (Akinyemi, 2010). These groups had a very difficult life in India, a life of abuse. For this reason, Gandhi spent almost all his life helping poor people. He works with others to free Indian from the British (Akinyemi, 2010). However, he never established a political ideology. Although they both were leaders in many countries of many groups, Gandhi never accepted to use the force to achieve his ideals because he believed that people could change the world without using violence (Akinyemi, 2010). In contrast Che Guevara believed that only by using armed force he would reach his goals. Even though he is one of the most important figures of the Cuban Revolution, Ernesto Guevara is seen by many people as a violent man. (Herbert, 1975). Despite everything, nowadays the world knows that they were extraordinary people that fought tirelessly to defeat the control and abuse that rich countries had over poor nations (Herbert, 1975).
To summarize, there exist many similarities and differences between this both important leaders. The ideals that inspired them were the same, the idea of freedom, justice and equality for all people. Gandhi wanted to activate the Independence of India (Akinyemi, 2010). Ernesto Guevara, similarly, wanted to achieve that. However he went beyond because he also longed to establish a new political ideology in Cuba, the Communism (Herbert, 1975). On the other hand, even though they fought to defeat the injustice, racism and mistreatment that people were living in that century. They didn't fight by the same way to achieve that. Finally they show us that everything is possible with perseverance, effort but above all patience. To conclude, a quotation of Ernesto Guevara That says "Dream and you will be free in spirit, fight and you will be free in life" (Guevara, 1958).
